This picture of Stonehenge was taken some time in the 1940's by James Max Porter of Birmingham, Alabama (USA). He was based in Wiltshire during World War II and took various pictures of Wiltshire. His daughter Carol Gilmore sent me a few pictures and gave me permission to publish them.

When this picture was taken it was still possible to walk up to the stones. Due to erosion and damage to the stones this is not possible any more today.
