First you climb up the shrouds which hold the mast until you reach the crows-nest (picture below left). From there you can reach the upper yard (below right). Normally you would also have the lower yard just below the crows-nest, unfortunately it had to be taken down due to an earlier damage.

When you enter a harbour you usually "man the yards", on the right you can see how it looked when we entered Oban. I'm one of the three on the left waving, unfortunately I don't remember which one...
