Picture of the ferry to SkyeSome time mid-afternoon we arrived in Mallaig to catch the ferry to Armadale on the Isle of Skye. We had a reservation for later in the afternoon, but that didn't really matter when we arrived. The timetable had been thrown into disarray through high traffic volumes, so we just joined the standby queue. We managed to get on to a ferry an hour earlier than we had originally planned for a crossing with wonderful views.
What I can't demonstrate is the sound effects we had several times during the crossing: Several of the car alarms going off almost simultaneously, set off by the ships movements or vibrations. Why don't people turn off the alarm when they drive on to a ferry? It's quite unlikely that your car will be stolen while it's on a ferry...
We had fantastic views over to the Small Isles of Eigg and Rum on one side and over Knoydart on the other side. A few impressions without much comment below, move your mouse pointer over a picture for a short comment.

Picture of the view to the CuillinsAfter a short drive from Armadale we arrived at our final destination for the day: Kinloch Lodge. I don't remember exactly, this was my third or fourth visit to Kinloch Lodge (but the first one for my mother). We had a lovely room with a view over the front lawn and the Sound of Sleat, similar to the picture bottom left. From the lawn we could see the Cuillins on the horizon. After an excellent 5 course dinner from Claire MacDonald's kitchen it was time to go to bed, get some rest for the next day where we had planned to go walking on Skye.
